The Human Book Project

Writers and publishers should benefit from, be compensated by, and be acknowledged by AI tools, not exploited by them.

The project lets writers and publishers share their books, posts and articles into a reader's AI Library: one place to keep what you read, and to read, listen to and discuss it with the AI tools you already use.

The product

AI Library

An AI library is a space where you keep what you read and interact with it however you like. The website and mobile app are free when you connect your own AI tools.

Everything you read, in one place

Books, blog posts, articles and papers. Track where you are in each. Upload your own or save pages with the browser extension.

Read, or listen

Switch between reading and listening with one toggle. Keep going while you walk, run or commute.

Discuss with your own AI

Ask questions, get summaries, cross-reference, study. Connect Claude or ChatGPT and talk to your library from the tools you already pay for.

Yours, and private

Your library is only visible to you. The plan is for you to keep it in your own cloud storage, so it stays private and secure.

For writers and publishers

Share your work on your terms

Put a book, a chapter, or a blog into the public library and readers can read it, listen to it and discuss it with their own AI, with you named as the author every time, and a link back to where they can buy or support your work.

  • Acknowledged. Attribution and links travel with the content, including into AI conversations.
  • Not scraped. Nothing is crawled. Content is only in the library because you, or a reader, put it there.
  • Compensated, eventually. How writers and publishers get paid is the open question this project exists to explore. We want to work it out with you.

First in the public library

Effective Shell by Dave Kerr, the project's founder. Read it, listen to it, ask it questions. Open the book.
